Police arrest 26,267 drug peddlers as anti-narcotics crackdown intensifies

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jul, 2026) Punjab Police have arrested 26,267 drug peddlers and registered 25,243 cases during the current year as part of the provincial government’s “Drug-Free Punjab” vision.

Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem directed officers to further intensify the crackdown against major drug dealers, smugglers and narcotics supply networks.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, police recovered 13,324 kilograms of charas, 1,251 kilograms of heroin, 870 kilograms of ice (crystal methamphetamine), 557 kilograms of opium and more than 379,000 litres of liquor during province-wide operations.

In Lahore, police arrested 3,746 drug peddlers and registered 3,631 cases during the same period. Recoveries included 1,345 kilograms of charas, 88 kilograms of heroin, 367 kilograms of ice, 37 kilograms of opium and 17,541 litres of liquor.

The IGP directed all field formations to ensure that those involved in the drug supply chain are brought to justice and awarded strict punishment under the law. He also ordered police to further accelerate operations against drug traffickers operating around educational institutions and hostels, besides taking stringent legal action against those involved in the online sale and purchase of narcotics.
