ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) The Federal government has decided to extend the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) to Gilgit-Baltistan, under which 500 to 1,000 young people from the region will be trained in modern technologies, including information technology, cloud computing, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
The development came during a meeting in Islamabad between Gilgit-Baltistan Caretaker Minister for Information and IT Ghulam Abbas and Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, where matters related to the expansion of the NAVTTC–Huawei Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Programme (PMYSDP) to Gilgit-Baltistan were discussed in detail.
During the meeting, Ghulam Abbas presented a formal request, along with proposals to extend the programme to Gilgit-Baltistan, stating that the region’s youth have strong potential in emerging technologies but face limited access to training facilities due to geographical constraints and a lack of institutional infrastructure.
