PM Shehbaz convenes multi-party meeting on Pakistan-Afghanistan situation, regional tensions

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Mar, 2026) Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting of parliamentary leaders and representatives to take them into confidence on the evolving Pakistan-Afghanistan situation and recent tensions in the region, particularly in the middle East and Gulf.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office, began with the prime minister set to brief political stakeholders on key developments concerning Pakistan’s western border and the broader regional security environment. The participants were also scheduled to receive a detailed briefing on the prevailing situation, a Prime Minister's Office news release said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will highlight Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach and efforts undertaken during the recent period of heightened tensions. The prime minister will underscore the government’s measured and responsible approach aimed at safeguarding national interests while promoting regional peace and stability.

The session is being attended by Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan, and Deputy Speaker National Assembly Ghulam Mustafa Shah.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, along with Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attaullah Tarar and Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry are also present in the meeting.

Leaders from various political parties, including Abdul Aleem Khan of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, Khalid Hussain Magsi of Balochistan Awami Party, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Dr Farooq Sattar of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Chaudhry Salik Hussain of PML-Q, and representatives from the National Party and other parliamentary groups, are also participating.

Advisers and special assistants to the prime minister, including Rana Sanaullah Khan and Talha Burki, as well as senators and members of the National Assembly from multiple parties, are in attendance.
