Plea filed for early hearing of Imaan Mazari, Hadi Chatha' sentence suspension petitions

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) Separate miscellaneous applications have been filed before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking early fixation of the sentence suspension petitions filed by convicted individuals Imaan Zainab Mazari and Hadi Chatha in the controversial tweets case.

The applications were filed through advocates Faisal Siddiqui, Zainab Janjua, and Muhammad Jibran Nasir. The petitioners submitted that the Supreme Court on May 12, 2026 directed the high court to decide the sentence suspension petitions on a priority basis within two weeks.

The counsel argued that since February 27, 2026, the sentence suspension petitions have not been fixed for hearing before any bench.

The petitioners have been incarcerated since January 24, 2026, and the delay in deciding their applications is contrary to the requirements of justice.

The petitioners requested the court to fix the sentence suspension petitions for hearing during the week commencing May 18, 2026. Imaan Zainab Mazari and Hadi Chatha were convicted in a case related to controversial tweets and have been seeking suspension of their sentences pending final adjudication of their appeals.
