Drug suspect accuses of torture in custody, claims cases against her are fake
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 16th, 2026) A woman identified as Anmol alias Pinky, arrested in connection with an alleged drug trafficking network, informed a local court that she was kept in custody for nearly 22 to 23 days after being taken from Lahore.
The accused was produced before the South Judicial Magistrate after completion of her earlier physical remand. During the hearing, the investigating officer sought an extension in physical custody, stating that further interrogation was required to progress the investigation. The defence counsel, however, strongly opposed the request.
In her statement before the court, the suspect claimed she was picked up from Lahore by police officials and shifted between different locations before being brought to Karachi. She alleged that she was subjected to torture during custody.
When the court inquired why no immediate complaint was raised at the time of arrest, she responded that she was under pressure. The accused also alleged that her former husband was behind her detention, adding that she had separated from him a few months earlier.
The court later reserved its verdict on the police request for extension in physical remand in a case registered at Baghdadi police station.
During the hearing, the investigating officer informed the court that financial transactions worth millions of rupees had been traced during the investigation.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He further stated that the suspect’s identity documents had been blocked and that SIM cards were obtained using credentials of other individuals. He added that two co-suspects had already been arrested, while efforts were underway to apprehend others linked to the alleged network.
The court expressed displeasure over the investigation process after the officer failed to present required documents, observing irregularities in the case record.
The defence counsel argued that the accused was not produced on the scheduled date and alleged that she had been moved across various locations for several days, terming the investigation improper and mishandled.
Meanwhile, during court proceedings, female police personnel attempted to cover the suspect’s face, but she repeatedly removed the covering and insisted on speaking, stating she was unable to breathe.
In a separate development, a Malir court sent the accused to jail on judicial remand in a case registered at Sachal police station and directed the investigating officer to submit the challan within 14 days.
The prosecution has also decided to challenge the Malir court’s order and is preparing to file a criminal revision petition.
