PHC orders pre-eid release of 254 prisoners in petty cases

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th May, 2026) Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, 2026, judicial officers across the province Monday conducted special jail visits under the direction of Chief Justice Peshawar High Court.

All District and Sessions Judges, alongside Judicial Magistrates, participated in the initiative, which aimed to ensure expeditious and lawful disposal of petty cases.

As a result of these targeted visits, 252 cases involving minor offenses were successfully resolved, leading to the release of 254 prisoners.

This timely intervention allowed released individuals to return home and celebrate auspicious occasion of Eid with their families and loved ones.

The initiative highlights judiciary's ongoing commitment to upholding the rule of law, ensuring swift dispensation of justice, and providing relief to deserving individuals.

Furthermore, the Honorable Chief Justice expressed appreciation for diligence and dedication of all participating judicial officers, and said that their efforts also significantly contributed to alleviating prison overcrowding.
