LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Mar, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a milk shop, a renowned cafe, and several fast-food and biryani outlets during an intensified crackdown against adulteration in Ramazan, here on Wednesday.
PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid told the media that the operations were conducted in Amin Park, Shahdara and adjoining areas, where 450 litres of substandard milk were discarded after laboratory samples failed. A case was also registered against the milk shop concerned.
The DG said enforcement teams seized fryers, ovens, machines and freezers, and took action against outlets over poor hygiene conditions and violations of food safety laws.
During inspections, expired bread was found being used for preparing burgers, while several food items lacked mandatory production and expiry dates. In some premises, washrooms were located within kitchen areas and heavy insect infestation was observed, with no adequate preventive arrangements in place.
Officials also detected the use of non-food-grade materials, while blood stains, hair and foul odour were found in rusty freezers. Mandatory facilities such as water filtration plants, oil change records and employees’ medical certificates were missing at various outlets.
Dirty floors, rusted machinery, fungus-infested walls and uncovered food items were also noted, the DG added.
He said that on the directions of the Chief Secretary Punjab, PFA teams would remain active in three shifts across the province throughout Ramazan to ensure provision of safe and quality food to citizens. He urged the public to support the authority in eliminating adulteration and to report complaints on the PFA helpline 1223.
