MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) launched a major crackdown against the sale of counterfeit beverages and unhygienic meat in Khanewal, seizing thousands of litres of fake and expired drinks and unhygienic meat.
The operations were conducted on the special directives of Syed Musa Raza as food safety teams carried out raids at multiple locations in Kabirwala and Khanewal city.
According to a spokesperson, a raid was conducted at a soda water production point in Mari Sahu, Kabirwala, where counterfeit juices were allegedly being prepared and packed under the Names of well-known brands. During the operation, officials recovered and destroyed 800 litres of fake juice, 15 kilograms of counterfeit packing material and a large quantity of substandard ingredients.
The fake beverages were intended to be supplied to local markets and retail shops. The food safety team sealed the production unit on the spot, halted all manufacturing activities and lodged an FIR against the owner.
In another major action, the authority raided an illegal slaughterhouse in Mohallah Ghausia, Kabirwala, and recovered around 109 kilograms of meat obtained from diseased animals.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Veterinary experts declared the meat unsafe and unfit for human consumption, after which it was disposed of immediately. Legal proceedings were also initiated against those involved in the illegal slaughtering operation.
Meanwhile, during a separate raid at a cold drink store in Niazi Chowk, officials seized 1,270 litres of expired soft drinks that were reportedly being supplied to grocery stores and retailers in the area. The entire stock was destroyed and a fine of Rs40,000 was imposed on the store owner.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Musa Raza said that no compromise would be made on public health and strict action would continue against elements involved in food adulteration and the sale of counterfeit products.
He said adulteration and fraud in daily-use food items, especially products consumed by children and citizens, were serious crimes and the authority would continue indiscriminate operations across the Punjab.
