Pervaiz Malik says upcoming price revision will be determined based on average petroleum product rates

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 12, 2026) The Federal government is set to announce new rates for petrol and diesel on Friday, confirmed Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, as international oil prices continue to surge amid ongoing tensions in the middle East.

Addressing the media, Ali Pervaiz Malik stated that the upcoming price revision will be determined based on average petroleum product rates, adding that it is too early to confirm whether petrol prices will see an increase.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb pointed out that global fuel prices are on the rise and highlighted an IMF press release assessing the potential impact of the Middle East conflict on Pakistan’s economy.

He cautioned that a prolonged conflict could increase pressure on external payments and may affect remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis.

Last week, the federal government had already increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs 55 per litre in response to climbing global oil rates and regional instability.

Friday’s update is expected to make further adjustments based on prevailing international market trends.

The Petroleum Minister urged citizens to follow the official announcement closely, noting that the government is committed to setting prices transparently, reflecting average market rates while balancing affordability and economic stability.

Friday’s revision will include petrol, diesel, kerosene, and other petroleum products. The authorities will monitor global crude oil developments and regional factors closely before finalizing the new rates.

The analysts said that the combination of geopolitical tensions and rising crude oil prices is likely to continue affecting domestic fuel rates, emphasizing the importance of timely government updates for both consumers and businesses.
