RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jul, 2026) Construction work on the Rs 8.0 billion signal-free corridor project on Rawalpindi’s busiest artery, Peshawar Road, is in its extensive stages, with overall completion expected within the next two months after the allied work is completed.
A senior official of the Highway Division Rawalpindi told APP that approximately 80 percent of the ancillary works including the construction of drainage systems, relocation of electricity cables, and other utility shifting have already been 80 percent completed. The 18-month-long project, expected to be completed in just two months after the allied work is finished, featuring three underpasses, is designed to ensure a seamless and uninterrupted flow of traffic from the Islamabad Expressway all the way to the Motorway Chowk.
According to the Highway Department, a major base camp for heavy construction machinery has been established near Qasim Market, directly opposite the Traffic Police Office, to monitor and accelerate onsite activities.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Currently, excavation is underway for the construction of a service road from Qasim Market to the Radio Pakistan Stop on the track leading from Sadar to Peshawar. Similarly, construction is progressing rapidly on the service road section from Rafay Mall to Lane 4 on the Peshawar-to-Sadar track.
Executed by the Punjab Highway Department, the mega-project is aimed at restructuring Peshawar Road with underpasses, dedicated service roads, and modern road infrastructure to mitigate future traffic congestion.
Although the ongoing construction temporarily impacts the speed of traffic, local residents and commuters have widely welcomed the development, noting that the timely and high-quality completion of the corridor will provide long-term relief to thousands of daily commuters and turn Peshawar Road into one of the city's most modern corridors.
