PESCO announces forced load management amid power shortfall

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) on Thursday announced forced load management in its region due to a persistent generation shortfall and a widening gap between electricity demand and supply.

According to a PESCO spokesperson, the current electricity demand in the region stands at 2,000 megawatts, while the available supply is 1,351 megawatts, creating a significant shortfall in the power system.

He said that due to this imbalance, additional load management of 3 to 4 hours beyond the scheduled outages is being implemented across the PESCO region.

The spokesperson added that rising international crude oil prices have increased electricity generation costs, while the demand for electricity continues to rise, further straining the system.

He said the purpose of forced load management is to manage the shortfall and reduce the financial burden on consumers caused by expensive oil-based electricity generation.

PESCO is making efforts to minimize the duration of power cuts to reduce inconvenience to consumers, he said, adding that the situation will improve once the generation shortfall is addressed.
