SIALKOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jul, 2026) Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Umar Abbas Mela visited here on Tuesday and reviewed the district's preparedness for urban flooding
and possible flood situations following heavy rainfall.
Deputy Commissioner Awais Mushtaq and other senior officials briefed the DG at the
District Emergency Operations Centre on emergency preparedness, inter-departmental
coordination and response measures.
According to the district administration, he directed all departments to remain on high
alert and ensure timely action to protect lives and property.
Later, Umar Abbas Mela inspected Nullah Bhed at Paris Road and Shell Chowk to review
drainage arrangements.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The deputy commissioner informed him that 130 millimetres
of rainfall had been recorded in the city from morning till 4pm, adding that prompt action
by the district administration, WASA and other departments ensured the quick drainage
of rainwater from low-lying areas. He said the water level in Nullah Bhed remained under
control due to timely desilting and effective field operations.
The PDMA DG also visited Head Marala, where he was briefed on the water situation
in the Chenab River. Officials informed him that the river was experiencing a medium-level
flood with water levels gradually rising.
The deputy commissioner said all relevant departments were on high alert and fully
prepared to respond to any emergency.
