PCB sources says Mike Hesson will continue as head coach in both ODI and T20 formats under the terms of his existing contract
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 5th, 2026) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to make any major changes in the national cricket team following its disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, sources confirmed. The board has opted for continuity, marking a shift from past practices where losses often triggered immediate changes in leadership.
The PCB sources said that Mike Hesson will continue as head coach in both ODI and T20 formats under the terms of his existing contract. Salman Ali Agha will remain captain of the T20 team, while Shaheen Afridi retains the captaincy in the ODI format.
Officials said the board aims to boost confidence in the current leadership rather than react impulsively to the recent setbacks.
Meanwhile, the resignation of former selector Alim Dar has been formally accepted.
In the Test format, following the resignation of head coach Azhar Mahmood, the PCB has appointed former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed as the new head coach. Sarfaraz will take charge upon returning from Abu Dhabi.
Furthermore, Director High-Performance Center Aqib Javed and the Selection Committee will continue their roles, ensuring stability in team management and selection processes.
PCB sources emphasized that the decision reflects a long-term vision for team development, giving players and staff the opportunity to recover and perform better in upcoming international series.
