PCB sources say a formal announcement regarding Sarfaraz’s appointment is expected shortly
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 4th, 2026) Pakistan Cricket board (PCB) has decided to appoint former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed as the head coach of the national Test cricket team, sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The PCB sources said that a formal announcement regarding Sarfaraz’s appointment is expected shortly. He will begin his tenure with the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh in May.
The post of Pakistan’s Test head coach had remained vacant in recent months. Former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood served as interim head coach during the home series against South Africa.
Pakistan will face Bangladesh in a two-Test series beginning May 8, with the second Test scheduled to start on May 16. The series is part of the 2027 cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, making it crucial for Pakistan’s standing in the tournament.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, who previously led Pakistan to victory in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, has also been actively involved in youth development. He was appointed mentor of the Pakistan Under-19 team, guiding them to an Asia Cup title, and recently served as mentor during the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026.
