Overseas workers continue to drive economic support through steady remittances.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s workers’ remittances surged to a record $4.25 billion in May 2026, marking the highest monthly inflow in the country’s history and providing a significant boost to external sector stability and foreign exchange reserves, according to official data and market estimates.

On a monthly basis, inflows rose by 20 percent, while on a year-on-year basis they increased by 15.4 percent, reflecting sustained strength in overseas remittance inflows, supported in part by seasonal Eid-related transfers.

Cumulatively, remittances during July–May FY26 stood at $38.1 billion, registering a growth of 9.2 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, keeping Pakistan firmly on track for a record annual performance.

Country-wise breakdown shows Saudi Arabia as the leading source with $1.03 billion, followed closely by the United Arab Emirates at $1.01 billion, the United Kingdom at $645 million, and the United States at $350 million, with additional contributions from Europe and other regions.

Analysts noted that the continued upward trajectory reflects sustained confidence among overseas Pakistanis and remains a key pillar supporting external account resilience amid ongoing macroeconomic pressures.

They added that total remittances for FY26 are projected to exceed $41 billion, potentially setting a new annual benchmark.
