ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) Minister of Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday urged the Afghan regime to take concrete measures to eliminate terrorist hideouts operating from Afghan territory.

Speaking in an interview with a private television channel, the minister said Afghan soil was also being used as a proxy by India against Pakistan. He stated that Pakistan had repeatedly requested through dialogue with Afghanistan to stop the infiltration of terrorists across the border.

He said Pakistan is facing terrorism due to militant groups operating from Afghan territory. Khawaja Asif said Afghanistan should acknowledge Pakistan’s decades-long sacrifices in the fight against terrorism as well as its hospitality towards millions of Afghan refugees over the years.

Commenting on relations with India, the minister warned that any aggressive move against Pakistan would have serious consequences. Referring to the Indus Waters Treaty, he said the Hague court had delivered a decision in Pakistan’s favour, adding that the treaty remains a longstanding agreement between the two countries.

Responding to a question regarding tensions between the United States and Iran, the defence minister said both countries had expressed confidence in Pakistan. He added that Pakistan’s leadership had played an unprecedented role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
