Pakistan trying to move towards EVs quickly: Ahsan Iqbal

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jul, 2026) Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said on Saturday that world is

fast moving away from gasoline in transportation as the electric vehicle (EV) revolution

has begun.

Eighty percent of petrol in Pakistan is spent on transport. Pakistan is also trying to move towards

EVs quickly, he added.

Talking to the media after inaugurating the EVS World and Electricity Pakistan Exhibition here

at Expo Center, he said that Pakistan's development depends on exports. Pakistan's economy

would become invincible only when exporters and other stakeholders work as much as possible.

"Pakistani exporters are exporting to different countries, but we need to increase our exports

by another ten percent. Pakistan can attain a hallmark in the world through the potential of EV sector," he observed.

To a query, he said, nine million overseas Pakistanis earn USD 40 billion, adding that we have to become an earning economy instead of a dollar-spending economy, otherwise it would be difficult to get rid of the IMF. Pakistan's future depends on its exports.

Ahsan Iqbal said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had brought many positive reforms in the Federal board of Revenue (FBR). The government has done a lot of work in the FBR regarding tax reforms and comprehensive steps are being taken to stop tax evasion, which would further improve public sector development projects and public welfare works.

To another question, he said that Pakistan is one of the countries in the world with the lowest tax collection, citing that developed countries collect 14 to 16 percent tax.

The federal miniater said, "We have won Marka-e-Haq and gave India a crushing defeat. India has started an unconventional war through terrorism, he reiterated that Pakistan would also bring India's facilitators to the same fate."

Pakistan has proven itself to be a peace-loving country through diplomacy, he said and mentioned that Pakistan had to be bankrupted in the four years of the PTI government, and the successful no-confidence motion had saved the country from default. The present government has given Pakistan its rightful place in the international community. Due to the good decisions of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, there was a turnaround in the country.

To another question, he said, if the international price of oil increases, we are also compelled to do so. "I hope there will be an encouraging breakthrough soon.This war has affected adversely 193 countries. We hope that the leadership of the United States and Iran will return to the agreement."
