FO Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Indrabi says Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is in New York on a visit to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Feb 19th, 2026) Pakistan has confirmed that it will play a constructive role in promoting peace in Gaza but will not take part in disarming Hamas, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Indrabi said during a weekly briefing on Saturday.

FO Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Indrabi said the Prime Minister is in New York on a visit to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

During his visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the Gaza board of Peace meeting and hold key meetings with senior US officials.

The spokesperson added that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is also in New York. The Deputy Prime Minister met with the Palestinian Permanent Representative and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Before his visit to Austria, he also held phone calls with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Badr Abdelatty.

The Prime Minister visited Vienna, Austria, at the invitation of Austrian Federal Chancellor Kristine Stocker, where a joint communiqué was issued.

During the visit, he also met with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.

The Foreign Office emphasized that Pakistan’s engagement will focus solely on promoting peace and stability in Gaza. “Pakistan is not involved in any decision against any group or organization,” the spokesperson said. He added that while Pakistan will participate in the peace process, it will not be involved in disarming Hamas, and hopes that the Gaza Board of Peace will help alleviate the difficulties faced by the people of Gaza.

In other developments, Professor Ahsan Iqbal attended the oath-taking ceremony of the new Bangladeshi government. Earlier this week, Pakistan along with seven other Muslim countries strongly condemned Israel’s controversial annexation law concerning the West Bank.

The spokesperson also referenced reports of the arrest of Indian national Nikhel Gupta, stating that Pakistan has evidence of terrorist groups operating in the country with Indian backing.
