Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Friday expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, urging both countries to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic solutions

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Friday expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, urging both countries to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic solutions.

In a statement issued by the JUI media cell, he said that Pakistan’s security concerns in the current Pak-Afghan situation were legitimate and must be addressed in accordance with national interests and international norms.

He said that Pakistan has consistently sought peace, stability, and brotherly relations with Afghanistan, but safeguarding national sovereignty and the safety of its people remained the foremost priority.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized that any threat to Pakistan’s security could not be taken lightly.

He noted that Pakistan has shown restraint despite repeated provocations and continues to prefer dialogue over confrontation, adding that emotional and irresponsible actions could further complicate the situation.

He maintained that Pakistan’s position was based on self-defense and regional stability rather than aggression, warning that unilateral military escalation by any side would only deepen tensions.

Calling for mutual respect and adherence to internationally recognized principles, the JUI chief urged both countries to immediately observe a ceasefire and demonstrate patience, tolerance, and responsible conduct.

He also expressed hope that friendly countries and well-wishers of both nations would play a constructive diplomatic role in de-escalating tensions and promoting lasting peace in the region.
