LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jun, 2026) Progress is underway towards the completion of Pakistan's first carbon credit market project in Punjab, while Phase-II has been formally launched at Mehmood Buti Landfill Site. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb visited the project and inaugurated the flaring system under Phase-II.
At the landfill site, process of convertion methane gas emittion into energy is progressing rapidly.
During the visit, Ruda Chief Executive Officer Imran Amin gave the Senior Minister a detailed briefing on the rehabilitation and ongoing development activities of Mehmood Buti Landfill Site.
According to the authorities, the aim of the project is to create new and sustainable sources of income through carbon credits and green energy. In this regard, the second phase of the carbon credit market project has also been launched.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>It was informed in the briefing that the phased rehabilitation of the 43-acre landfill site is underway, under which a 5 MW solar park will be established on 11 acres of land, while an urban forest is being developed on 31 acres.
As a result of the project, the local population has received relief by eliminating the stench that had been prevalent in the area for decades.
According to experts, this initiative will help in significantly reducing environmental pollution, controlling carbon emissions, reducing temperature, improving air quality and protecting groundwater.
During the visit, Maryam Aurangzeb also reviewed the project to convert the waste dump into a modern solar park and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work.
