Pakistan keeps petrol, diesel prices stable despite global oil surge

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says government is committed to easing the financial burden on citizens and will do everything possible to provide relief during these challenging times

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 13rd, 2026) Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced that prices of petroleum products will remain unchanged despite rising global oil prices, ensuring relief for the common people.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government is committed to easing the financial burden on citizens and will do everything possible to provide relief during these challenging times. He warned that regional tensions and pressure on the global economy could have serious consequences for Pakistan’s economy.

Shahbaz Sharif said timely policy-making and fiscal discipline are being used to manage the situation. “In difficult times, our priority is to reduce the burden on the poor, beginning with measures by the government and elite sectors,” he added.

He also praised provincial governments for supporting Federal austerity measures. Thanks to diplomatic efforts and the economic team’s planning, sufficient crude oil supplies are available to meet domestic needs. The Prime Minister emphasized that federal and provincial authorities are ensuring no charges are collected above the set prices.

Sources said that while global oil prices had risen, proposals were made to increase petrol by Rs50 per litre and diesel by Rs75, Shahbaz Sharif intervened to prevent passing this burden onto consumers. The government will bear the additional costs itself.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that global conditions would stabilize, ensuring petroleum prices remain steady in Pakistan.
