Pakistan, Indonesia working to upgrade current framework of bilateral trade: Rahmat Kusuma

Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Rahmat Kusuma has said that Pakistan and Indonesia are working to upgrade the current framework of bilateral trade into a comprehensive economic cooperation to diversify the trade between the two countries

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th May, 2026) Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Rahmat Kusuma has said that Pakistan and Indonesia are working to upgrade the current framework of bilateral trade into a comprehensive economic cooperation to diversify the trade between the two countries.

Addressing a function in ITHM College, he said that the current bilateral trade is around $3 to 4bn. ‘’It was driven by the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) in 2013’’, he said and added that Indonesian palm oil export to Pakistan is dominating the trade though both nations are actively working to diversify the trade.

Engr. Asim Munir Vice President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) stressed the need to deepen the cultural, educational and trade relations by holding joint cultural and food shows in both countries.

He said that Pakistani diplomatic staff in Indonesia should also facilitate Pakistani exporters so that they could minimize the trade gap between the two countries.

He appreciated the exchange of students between Indonesia and Pakistan and said that the Indonesian government should extend maximum educational scholarships to Pakistani students particularly in emerging sciences including Artificial Agency (AI).

He further said, "We must make sincere efforts to ensure trade balance by giving a quantum jump to the Pakistani exports to Indonesia."

Ms. Qurrat-ul-Ain Vice President FPCCI and CEO ITHM said that shared programs in tourism, food and hospitality could be launched to benefit from the experience of Indonesian institutes.

Mr. Muhammad Ali, Executive Member FCCI was also present during this meeting while shields were presented to Mr. Rahmat Kusuma and Engr. Asim Munir Vice President FCCI.
