FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) The experts said that Pakistan has the potential to play a pivotal role in facilitating dialogue between the United States of America and Iran.
They were addressing a seminar held at Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) and highlighted growing importance of the country as a diplomatic bridge in an increasingly polarized global landscape.
Department of International Relations GCUF organized the seminar which brought together scholars, faculty members and students to examine Pakistan’s evolving role in global diplomacy, with particular focus on its prospective contribution to easing tensions between the United States and Iran.
Chairman of the department Dr Ghulam Mustafa welcomed prominent scholars including Prof Dr Rabia Akhtar, Dr Qamar Cheema and Prof Dr Muqarrab Akbar, who shared their insights on Pakistan’s strategic positioning in contemporary geopolitics.
The speakers underlined Pakistan’s historical contributions to major diplomatic milestones including the rapprochement between the United States and China and its role in the US–Taliban peace process, noting that such precedents enhanced its credibility as a mediator in complex international disputes.
They observed that Pakistan’s balanced foreign policy, coupled with its regional influence, positioned it well to foster dialogue, reduce tensions and contribute constructively to international peace efforts.
In his concluding remarks, GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam lauded the Department of International Relations for organizing the seminar and urged students to engage critically with global affairs and diplomacy.
He said that Pakistan’s strategic location and diplomatic credibility placed it in a significant position in regional and global affairs, adding that universities must play an active role in raising awareness about international relations, peace-building and emerging global challenges.
The seminar concluded with a consensus that Pakistan could serve as a constructive diplomatic actor while the participants reaffirmed the importance of academic dialogue in shaping informed perspectives on international peace and cooperation.
Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof Dr Muhammad Asim Mahmood also attended the seminar.
