Pakistan posted a formidable total of 212 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to explosive innings by Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman

KANDY: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Feb 28th, 2026) Pakistan were eliminated from the semi-final race of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup despite defeating Sri Lanka in a high-scoring Super 8 encounter.

In the match played in Kandy, the Sri Lankan captain won the toss and opted to field first, inviting Pakistan to bat.

Pakistan posted a formidable total of 212 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to explosive innings by Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman.

Farhan smashed a brilliant 100, while Fakhar contributed 84 runs to power the Green Shirts to a commanding total.

However, Pakistan needed to bowl Sri Lanka out for 147 runs or less to qualify for the semi-finals based on net run rate calculations.

Sri Lanka fought back strongly in the run chase and, despite losing the match by five runs, managed to score 207 runs in pursuit of the 213-run target. Pakistan’s bowlers failed to restrict the opposition to the required margin, resulting in their elimination from the tournament.

With Pakistan unable to achieve the necessary net run rate advantage, New Zealand cricket team advanced to the semi-finals from Group 2 with three points and a superior run rate. England cricket team had already secured their place in the final four.

Pakistan’s exit marks a disappointing end to their T20 World Cup campaign despite a spirited batting performance in their final Super 8 fixture.
