ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Mustafa Kamal, said Pakistan was committed to promoting global partnerships for the research, development and equitable distribution of tuberculosis (TB) vaccines, stressing that the fight against the disease required urgent action, innovation and international solidarity.

“With joint efforts, we can save millions of lives,” the minister said while addressing the 4th High-Level Meeting of the TB Vaccine Accelerator Council in Geneva, according to the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

Mustafa Kamal appreciated the coordinated global efforts against TB and described the disease as a serious public health challenge worldwide, particularly for high-burden countries, including Pakistan.

He emphasized that TB could not be eradicated without an effective, accessible and affordable vaccine.

The minister said the new TB vaccine should be treated as a global public asset, adding that countries most affected by the disease should not face delays due to high prices or limited production capacity.

“For this purpose, an equitable distribution system and enhanced regional production capacity are indispensable,” he said.

Highlighting Pakistan’s priorities, Mustafa Kamal said the implementation of TB vaccines should be integrated into national health and immunization systems, including Primary healthcare facilities, surveillance systems, laboratory networks and digital health infrastructure.

He reiterated Pakistan’s support for establishing a working group focused on preparedness, awareness and community partnership to strengthen national and global anti-TB efforts.

The minister also called for consistent and predictable funding for TB vaccines, noting that sustainable global financial resources were essential to accelerate vaccine development.

He urged the international community to prioritize TB vaccine financing at the G20 and other international forums, while reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening national efforts aimed at eliminating tuberculosis.
