PAKISTAN: Pakistan will host its first international gemstone exhibition in July 2026. This exhibition is designed to showcase the country’s abundant (yet primarily unused) mineral resources.

Many people are expected to attend, including international investors, traders, and experts from various fields, who will network with each other. This will allow Pakistan to showcase the full capabilities of the entire gemstone sector to a worldwide audience.

Pakistan is reportedly rich in diamonds (worth approximately $450 billion), yet its export levels remain very low for various reasons. Some of these reasons include a lack of value added to the gemstones that come out of Pakistan, outdated mining methods, and an inability to find adequate modern processing equipment. Because of these reasons, Pakistan is unable to fully realise the potential of its natural resources.

In parallel, training programs are being introduced to equip workers with advanced skills in modern and sustainable mining techniques. By developing a more skilled workforce, authorities hope to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and promote responsible extraction practices across the sector.

Officials believe that through strategic investment, improved infrastructure, and a focus on value addition, the country can transform its gemstone industry into a major contributor to economic growth and foreign exchange earnings.
