Over 4,000 cops deployed for cattle markets security across province

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Abdul Kareem, has directed Punjab Police to ensure stringent security arrangements at cattle markets across the province ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, with more than 4,000 police officers and personnel deployed for the security of 222 cattle markets

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Abdul Kareem, has directed Punjab Police to ensure stringent security arrangements at cattle markets across the province ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, with more than 4,000 police officers and personnel deployed for the security of 222 cattle markets.

According to a spokesperson for Punjab Police, comprehensive security measures have been put in place across Punjab, including Lahore, to provide a safe environment to traders and citizens visiting cattle markets for the purchase of sacrificial animals. More than 600 police officers and personnel are performing security duties at six cattle markets established in Lahore.

The IGP said that Punjab Police have adopted effective measures to safeguard the lives and properties of traders and citizens visiting cattle markets. He directed that no cattle market should be allowed to operate at any location other than those approved by the district administration, adding that indiscriminate legal action should be taken against illegal cattle markets and unauthorized sale points.

Abdul Kareem further directed police authorities to formulate an effective patrolling plan to curb the activities of fraudsters, pickpockets and other criminal elements. He said Police Response Units and other patrolling teams should ensure continuous patrolling in and around cattle markets so that citizens could purchase sacrificial animals without fear or inconvenience.

Giving region-wise details, the spokesperson said that 150 personnel have been deployed for security duties at 23 cattle markets in Sheikhupura Region, 525 personnel at 44 cattle markets in Gujranwala Region, more than 340 personnel at 22 cattle markets in Rawalpindi Region, and 170 personnel at 22 cattle markets in Sargodha Region.

Similarly, more than 538 officers and personnel have been deployed at 19 cattle markets in Faisalabad Region, over 480 personnel at 20 cattle markets in Multan Region, more than 230 personnel at 11 cattle markets in Sahiwal Region, over 410 personnel at 29 cattle markets in Bahawalpur Region, while more than 210 officers and personnel are performing duties at 26 cattle markets in DG Khan Region.
