Over 3000 students get laptops under PM laptop distribution ceremony at KU

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) The University of Karachi is the largest university in the country in terms of student enrollment, with more than 47,000 students currently studying. Under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, the KU received a total of 12,000 applications, out of which 3,064 students were selected to receive laptops.

KU’s Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi while addressing the laptop distributions ceremony held at the KU’s Chinese Teachers Memorial Auditorium on Thursday, emphasized that whether it is education, medicine, or military strategy, every sector today revolves around technology, and modern technology plays a crucial role in all of them.

The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi said that while everyone has desires, real success lies in making those desires a reality, which requires continuous hard work, dedication, and determination. Through these qualities, one can achieve their goals. Advising the students who received laptops, he urged them not to simply store the laptops but to use them practically for academic and research purposes.

He remarked that students should be grateful to the government of Pakistan and the Prime Minister, who, despite financial challenges, provided laptops to students so they could meet modern requirements and stay aligned with technological advancements.

On this occasion, Senator Nihal Hashmi, member of the PM Laptop Distribution Committee, said that students of any country are its most valuable asset, as it is from among them that future thinkers, politicians, scientists, and distinguished professionals in various fields emerge.

Speaking to the students, he said that today’s youth are fortunate because modern technology has made global access easier for them. He added that if students use this facility positively, they can achieve excellence in knowledge, research, and innovation.

Senator Nihal Hashmi highlighted that the KU has previously produced countless distinguished personalities for the country, including renowned nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, whose contributions strengthened Pakistan’s defense to the extent that no country can dare to look at Pakistan with hostility.

He advised students to make love for their faith, homeland, parents, and teachers the guiding principle of their lives, and to adopt hard work and honesty as their mission in the field of education.

Earlier, the Focal Person of the Prime Minister Youth Program Fahad Shafiq said that the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif core vision is to stabilize the country’s economy and empower the youth. He explained that the government is providing immense opportunities to young people because they are Pakistan’s future and most valuable asset.

Shedding light on the facilities and opportunities offered under the PM Youth Program, he mentioned that students are being provided with laptops, business support, scholarships, internship programs, vocational training, sports events, innovation awards, and more.

Fahad Shafiq urged students to take full advantage of these opportunities, as they can serve as the foundation for a bright future.
