The questions raised by members of opposition have been referred to committees during KP Assembly session held at cricket stadium on Wednesday

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) The questions raised by members of opposition have been referred to committees during KP Assembly session held at cricket stadium on Wednesday.

During the question hour in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, four questions and one calling attention notice submitted by opposition members covering fisheries, healthcare services, hydropower projects, and water supply schemes were referred to the relevant standing committees.

At Wednesday’s unusual session at a local cricket stadium here, Mehar Sultana of the Pakistan Peoples Party asked how many artificial ponds existed across the province for fish farming.

Law Minister Aftab Alam responded that there are 922 such ponds province-wide. However, due to incomplete information regarding staff details, the Speaker referred the question to a standing committee with the consent of the house.

PPP member Ihsanullah raised concerns about the non-availability of medical staff and facilities at tehsil headquarters hospitals. He criticized the Sehat Card program, alleging it had become a hub of corruption within the bureaucracy, and highlighted the lack of medical staff and services in Darazinda.

Health minister Khaliq ur Rehman cited official reports indicating improvements in healthcare facilities. The assembly, following the minister’s response, also referred this question to the committee.

Another PPP lawmaker, Ahmad Kundi, questioned the district-wise details of hydropower projects, particularly asking why major projects such as Tarbela Dam, Warsak Dam, and Gomal Zam Dam were not included in the government’s response.

Responding, Law Minister Aftab Alam stated that complete details of hydropower projects had been provided and that the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization had completed seven projects with a total capacity of 161 megawatts.

On a question from MPA Johar, the government informed the house that there are 585 water supply schemes in Lakki Marwat, of which 558 are functional and 27 are non-functional. This question was also referred to the standing committee.

Meanwhile, Arif Ahmadzai presented a calling attention notice regarding recurring destruction in villages along the Kabul River, where floods wash away homes each year. He pointed out illegal encroachments along parts of the river near Shabqadar and Naugaman and urged the government to take concrete action.

Provincial Irrigation Minister Riaz Khan responded that operations against encroachments were ongoing, but some matters were sub judice, limiting departmental action. The Speaker subsequently referred this notice to the standing committee as well.
