NSPP concludes 3-day directors’ training programme for SOEs

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) The three-day Directors’ Training Programme (DTP) for state-owned enterprises (SOEs), conducted by the Executive Development Institute (EDI) of the National School of Public Policy (NSPP), Lahore, concluded on Thursday with active participation of representatives from public and private sectors.

The training programme, approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), brought together a diverse group of 17 participants from across the country, including civil officers from federal and provincial governments as well as private sector executives.

Participants represented key institutions and organisations including the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation Limited (PASSCO), Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company, Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation, General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Wah Cantt, Tijarat Worldwide, Abid Ali & Associates, Big Bird Foods, Corporate Planning, Punjab Mineral Development Corporation, and Bank of Punjab.

In his address, NSPP Rector Farhan Aziz Khawaja highlighted the importance of strengthening corporate governance in Pakistan. He said the initiative aims to promote transparency, accountability and cross-sector collaboration through structured capacity-building programs at NSPP’s Executive Development Institute.

He lauded the SECP-supported initiative, terming it a benchmark for corporate governance training in the country, and urged participants to uphold principles of transparency and accountability in their respective organisations.

Dean EDI Naveed Elahi briefed the participants on the objectives of the programme, stating that it is designed to enhance governance and performance of SOEs through effective leadership and strategic capacity-building.

He said the curriculum includes legal responsibilities, board effectiveness, risk management, ethical governance, and performance evaluation, supported by case studies, simulations and interactive learning sessions.

The training sessions featured eminent guest speakers including Dr Sohail Naqvi (former Vice Chancellor LUMS), Dr Ishrat Hussain (former Advisor to Prime Minister), Kashif Ahmad Noor (Military Accountant General), Ahmad Nazir Warraich (former Dean EDI), Dr Irum Saba (IBA Karachi), Muhammad Anwar Sheikh (retired Federal Additional Secretary, Finance Division), Mairaj A. Ariff (retired DG NIPA Quetta), Dr Shujat Ali (former Dean PASC), Imtiaz Mahmood (Company Secretary SNGPL), Tariq Bajwa (former SAPM on Finance and ex-Governor State Bank of Pakistan), and Dr Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan (National Coordinator SIFC).

The sessions covered key themes including corporate governance principles, SOE reforms and legal frameworks, board structure and responsibilities, Islamic finance and risk governance, business planning, directors’ roles and liabilities, public service obligations, cybersecurity, code of conduct, financial disclosures, audit mechanisms, and board simulations.

In his concluding remarks, the NSPP Rector appreciated the active participation of attendees and commended the EDI team for successfully conducting the programme.

Certificates were also distributed among participants at the conclusion of the training.
