Notorious robber killed in police shootout in Taxila

WAH CANTT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) A member of an inter-provincial robber gang was killed during an exchange of fire with police in the early hours of Friday within the limits of Taxila Police Station, a police spokesman said.

The deceased, identified as Waqas, was wanted in multiple heinous crimes, particularly robbery.

According to police, he had shot and injured a passerby girl and a former police head constable during a failed robbery attempt in Hussainiabad area on Thursday before fleeing the scene.

Police intercepted the suspects later in the area. During the ensuing crossfire, one robber was killed while another managed to escape under cover of darkness.

The body was shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital for medico-legal formalities.A search operation has been launched to apprehend the remaining accomplices, and further investigation is underway.
