MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Doctors at Nishtar Hospital have successfully performed a highly complex, life-saving surgery on a 20-year-old man after a wooden fragment penetrated his eye and reached his brain, hospital officials said.

The patient, identified as Muhammad Faheem, was brought to the Accident and Emergency Ward in critical condition following a traffic accident. Medical examination revealed that a nearly five-inch wooden piece had entered through his eye socket and extended into his brain — an extremely rare and life-threatening injury.

Acting swiftly, Principal Nishtar Medical College Dr. Rashid Qamar Rao constituted a specialised ophthalmology team, while neurosurgery head Dr. Liaquat Jalal assigned a team, led by Dr.

Ahmed Shah, assisted by Dr. Abdullah Umar and other experts.

The lengthy and intricate procedure required close coordination between neurosurgeons and ophthalmologists. Surgeons successfully removed the wooden fragment without causing damage to the brain or critical eye structures, stabilising the patient’s condition.

Vice Chancellor of Nishtar Medical University Dr. Mehnaz Khakwani and Medical Superintendent Dr. Rao Amjad Ali Khan congratulated the surgical team, describing the operation as a testament to the hospital’s advanced clinical capabilities.

Hospital officials said the case represents a rare example of multidisciplinary precision in emergency surgery and reflects improving standards in the public healthcare sector.
