NIPP holds academic session on Saud Sultan’s book; Speakers emphasise research-based dialogue on Kashmir issue

The National Institute of Public Policy (NIPP) on Tuesday organised an academic session on author Saud Sultan’s book Jammu and Kashmir: The Forgotten Narrative, where speakers highlighted the historical, cultural and political dimensions of the Kashmir issue and stressed the need for informed dialogue and research-based discourse

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) The National Institute of Public Policy (NIPP) on Tuesday organised an academic session on author Saud Sultan’s book Jammu and Kashmir: The Forgotten Narrative, where speakers highlighted the historical, cultural and political dimensions of the Kashmir issue and stressed the need for informed dialogue and research-based discourse.

The seminar, held at the NIPP auditorium, was inaugurated by Dean NIPP Dr. Naveed Elahi. Senior journalists and analysts Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami and Salman Ghani, educationist Qasim Ali Shah, policymakers, researchers and journalists attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Naveed Elahi said research-driven discussions are essential to better understand sensitive and long-standing conflicts such as Kashmir. He noted that institutions like NIPP are playing an important role in policymaking, shaping public opinion and presenting historical realities in an effective manner.

He urged universities and research institutions to promote meaningful academic debate on national and regional issues to provide students and researchers with proper awareness and perspective.

Speaking on the occasion, Salman Ghani described Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein” and said the dispute should be resolved in line with United Nations resolutions. He also called for highlighting human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir before the international community.

Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami said the book successfully highlights an important but often overlooked aspect of the Kashmir dispute. He noted that Pakistan and India have fought three wars over Kashmir and stressed that lasting peace in the region depends on resolving the issue in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Qasim Ali Shah said Pakistan’s map is incomplete without Kashmir and emphasised the need to promote research and intellectual development for national progress.

Author Saud Sultan presented key points from his book and discussed the historical and contemporary dimensions of the Kashmir issue. A question-and-answer session was also held during the event.

Earlier, a documentary highlighting the Kashmiri freedom struggle and the situation in Kashmir was screened for participants.
