Insta360 has made a bold entry into the premium creator camera market with the launch of its Luna Ultra, a Leica-powered pocket gimbal designed to challenge high-end compact cameras and mirrorless setups.

Co-engineered with Leica, the device marks a major shift for Insta360, which is widely known for its 360-degree cameras. The company is positioning the Luna Ultra as a high-end option for content creators looking for a balance between portability and professional imaging performance.

Priced at $769.99, the Luna Ultra sits above DJI’s Osmo Pocket lineup, making it one of the most expensive pocket-style cameras currently available. Despite the premium pricing, Insta360 says the device introduces features not found in competing products.

At the core of the system is a dual-camera setup built around Leica Summicron optics. The main camera features a 1-inch 8K sensor with an f/1.8 lens, while the secondary telephoto unit uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor with a 60mm equivalent focal length, offering up to 6x lossless zoom and 12x digital zoom.

Leica’s involvement extends beyond hardware, with Insta360 integrating Leica’s color science through three dedicated profiles Natural, Vivid, and Chrome delivering cinematic-style output inspired by Leica’s imaging systems.

One of the standout features is its detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen, which can be used as a wireless monitor and controller from up to 20 meters away. This allows creators to frame and control shots remotely, even when the camera is mounted or placed at difficult angles.

On the video side, the Luna Ultra supports 8K recording at 30fps, 4K at 120fps, along with Dolby Vision and 10-bit I-Log, targeting users who require advanced cinematic control in a compact device.

Stabilization is handled through a 3-axis mechanical system combined with Deep Track 5.0, offering subject tracking, group tracking, auto tracking, and smart framing features for smoother video capture.

The device weighs 235 grams and comes with a 1,550mAh battery, offering up to four hours of usage. It also includes 47GB of internal storage, microSD support up to 1TB, and a four-microphone array with built-in wind protection for improved outdoor audio recording.

Additional features include magnetic filter compatibility, optional wide-angle accessories expanding the field of view to 108 degrees, and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity for faster wireless control and file transfer.

Available in Cosmic Black and Stellar White, the Insta360 Luna Ultra is now on sale via the company’s official store, marking its strongest push yet into the premium creator camera segment.
