Officials say the move is expected to promote solar energy usage.
ISLAMABAD: In a major relief for solar energy consumers, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has abolished the requirement of obtaining a licence for users with solar systems of 25 kilowatts and below.
According to a spokesperson for the Power Division, the decision follows special instructions from Power Minister Awais Leghari, after which the Power Division formally wrote to NEPRA requesting the removal of the licensing condition for small-scale solar users.
The Power Division had recommended that consumers using solar systems of 25kW should be exempted from licensing requirements to encourage wider adoption of renewable energy.
Following the correspondence, NEPRA issued a notification implementing the decision.
Officials say the move is expected to promote solar energy usage and ease regulatory procedures for domestic and small commercial users.
