LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review the political and administrative situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), here on Wednesday.
He reiterated his party’s support for the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to self-determination in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
The meeting was attended by senior PML-N leaders and representatives of PML-N Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Nawaz Sharif said the party had always maintained a clear and consistent stance on the Kashmir issue and remained committed to safeguarding the constitutional and fundamental rights of the people of AJK as well as promoting the region’s development and prosperity.
Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in AJK, he said the people of the region enjoyed full civil liberties under the Interim Constitution Act, 1974, and stressed that all available resources should be utilized for their welfare and well-being. He said that the struggle for public rights should remain within the constitutional framework and affirmed that the PML-N would continue to work alongside democratic forces.
Nawaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, including government personnel and civilians, in recent incidents in AJK, saying such circumstances should never have arisen.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He paid tribute to the sacrifices rendered by the people of Kashmir for Pakistan and said Pakistan had always regarded the Kashmiri cause as its own.
Appealing to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he urged them to maintain peace, end protest sit-ins and engage in meaningful dialogue. He expressed hope that the people of AJK, the AJK government, the Government of Pakistan and all political parties would work together to restore peace and ensure continuity of the democratic and electoral process.
The PML-N President said the government and defence institutions had achieved notable successes under challenging circumstances and stressed that these accomplishments should promote brotherhood, tolerance and democratic values in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting also expressed profound grief over the loss of precious lives in recent incidents in AJK and offered prayers for the departed souls. He also commended Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam for his efforts in organizing election campaigns in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
