NAPA promotes Dastaangoi as tradition in its Repertory Festival

The National Academy of Performing Arts-NAPA presented a session of Dastaangoi, classical storytelling, as part of its Repertory Festival on Friday at the Zia Mohyeddin Theater

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th May, 2026) The National academy of Performing Arts-NAPA presented a session of Dastaangoi, classical storytelling, as part of its Repertory Festival on Friday at the Zia Mohyeddin Theater.

The event featured film and tv actors Fawad Khan, Nazar ul-Hasan, and Meesam Naqvi, telling two stories, Ek tha baadshah (written by Fawad Khan) and another one taken from the Tilism-e Hosh Ruba, a Munshi Muhammad Hussain Jaaj classic from the 19th century.

The tradition of dastaangoi is considered a cornerstone of modern-day theater in South Asian performing arts’ history. NAPA has tried to revive this tradition, and the evening was another attempt in that direction.
