MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Feb, 2026) A subcommittee of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Railways visited the divisional office of Pakistan Railways to review the overall performance of Multan Division, particularly progress on land recovery and tree plantation initiatives.
On arrival, a meeting was held at the Divisional Superintendent Office, chaired by convenor Ramesh Lal. Divisional Superintendent Iftikhar Hussain gave a detailed briefing on operational performance, revenue targets and steps taken to retrieve encroached railway land.
Committee members Wasim Qadir and Sadiq Ali Memon attended the meeting along with senior railway officials including CEO and Senior General Manager Aamir Ali Baloch, General Manager Welfare and Special Initiatives Hafeez Ullah, DG Land Shahid Abbas, DIG Pakistan Railways Munir Ahmed, Legal Adviser Salman Kazmi and other officers.
Officials informed the committee that effective action against encroachments and improved management of agricultural and commercial railway land had produced significant results.
A total of 141.23 acres of valuable railway land worth Rs1,144.33 million had been retrieved from land grabbers, while Rs550 million had been deposited into the national exchequer.
During the meeting, a detailed discussion was also held on the plantation campaign. Officials said more than 70,000 saplings had been planted so far and the drive would be expanded further. Committee members directed that environment-friendly trees be planted which also provide suitable habitats for birds.
The committee was further told that Multan Division had been given a revenue target of Rs1,500 million from railway land, of which Rs550 million had already been achieved. The Divisional Superintendent assured the members that the remaining target would be met within the current financial year.
