Motorway Police launches anti-encroachment drive on GT Road

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP), N-5 North Zone, has launched a comprehensive anti-encroachment drive along the GT Road to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and safe travel for commuters.

According to the details, special focus has been given to key areas including Jhhangi Syedan, Sangjani near Margalla Hills, as well as Rawat city, where encroachments were causing frequent traffic disruptions.

The grand operation was underway across multiple areas including Peshawar, Nowshera, Kamra, Taxila, Tarnol, Rawat, Gujar Khan, Jhelum, Lala Musa, Gujrat and Gujranwala, covering the entire jurisdiction of N-5 North Zone.

A spokesman said that the NHMP was working in close coordination with the National Highway Authority (NHA), local government departments and Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) to ensure effective implementation of the campaign.

Under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mahmood-ur-Rahman, illegal extensions of fuel stations into green belts were demolished with the help of heavy machinery, while roadside stalls, eateries and unauthorised billboards were removed. Cases have also been registered against several violators for encroaching upon the national highway.

To ensure sustained monitoring, an anti-encroachment squad has also been constituted under the supervision of DSP Mahmood-ur-Rahman, which would conduct regular surveillance and operations in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, citizens have welcomed the initiative and assured their cooperation, terming the drive a positive step towards ensuring road safety and smooth traffic flow.

The NHMP reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline on highways and said the campaign would continue with zero tolerance against encroachments.
