Motorway Police continue awareness drive on mandatory fire extinguishers in vehicles

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jun, 2026) The National Highways and Motorway Police is continuing a nationwide awareness campaign regarding the installation of fire extinguishers in vehicles traveling on national highways and motorways.

According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police on Saturday, legal action will be initiated after June 24 against public service vehicles found operating without fire extinguishers.

The spokesperson clarified that the enforcement deadline currently applied only to public transport vehicles carrying passengers. However, the awareness campaign for other categories of vehicles, including cars, jeeps, SUVs, LTVs and HTVs, has been extended by an additional 60 days.

The Motorway Police emphasized that the availability of fire extinguishers in vehicles was crucial for minimizing risks associated with emergencies, vehicle fires and potential loss of life.

The spokesperson urged the owners of public service vehicles, transport operators and drivers to ensure the installation of standard-quality fire extinguishers in their vehicles to enhance passenger safety and comply with road safety regulations.

The NHMP reiterated its commitment to promoting road safety and preventing accidents through public awareness and effective enforcement measures across the country's highway network.
