Most-wanted detained militant killed by accomplices fire in Bannu

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Feb, 2026) The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa foiled an attack on its investigation team in the Bannu region, killing a most-wanted militant commander, Usama alias Daniyal alias Baghi, during an exchange of fire.

According to official details on Sunday, a CTD Swat team was transporting the detained militant for completion of evidence and identification of the crime scene in connection with an attack on the Assistant Commissioner of North Waziristan, Shah Wali Khan, when armed militants ambushed the convoy in an attempt to free him.

Security officials said the attackers opened indiscriminate fire on the team. In retaliatory firing, a fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of the detained commander, Usama. Another militant, identified as Kamyab Khan alias Ikhlas Yar, was also killed during the exchange.

The CTD reported that the slain commander was an active member and alleged mastermind of a newly emerged militant outfit, “Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan.

” Weapons and explosives, including a Kalashnikov rifle, magazines, hand grenades, a card linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a national identity card and a mobile phone were recovered from the possession of the second militant.

Officials added that other militants managed to flee the scene, taking their injured accomplices with them. Bloodstains found at various points indicated that several of the attackers were wounded.

Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed and the Additional IG CTD praised the Swat team for their professionalism and bravery in eliminating a high-profile militant.

The IGP urged the public to continue cooperating with security forces, warning that militants do not hesitate to open fire even on their own associates.

A search and strike operation is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The CTD reaffirmed that indiscriminate operations will continue across the province to ensure peace and stability, particularly in the southern districts.
