Monsoon preparedness key to public safety: DC Abbottabad

ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Sarmad Saleem Akram, has stressed the need for timely preventive measures ahead of the monsoon season, stating that proactive planning and coordinated efforts were essential to safeguard the public from potential hazards.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting on Summer Hazard Contingency Planning 2026 here T4hursday, where administrative and preventive arrangements were reviewed in detail.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Cantonment board, Irrigation Department and WASA to immediately complete the cleaning of drainage channels to prevent urban flooding. He also emphasized the identification of potential choke points and the formulation of a comprehensive strategy for their permanent resolution. Issuing strict instructions, the DC ordered all relevant departments and magistrates to take indiscriminate action against illegal encroachments and ensure timely resolution of public issues.

In view of the upcoming tourist season, particularly in Galiyat and other scenic areas, the meeting decided to enhance traffic management.

The Traffic Warden Police, Tourism Department and district administration were tasked with developing a comprehensive traffic plan to facilitate tourists. Hotels in Galiyat were also directed to ensure proper parking facilities, with strict legal action to be taken against violators.

Highlighting the importance of preparedness, the DC directed Rescue 1122 to remain on high alert and ensure an effective and immediate response to any emergency situation.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief & Human Rights), Chairman District Reconciliation Committee Lt. Gen. (R) Ayaz Saleem Rana, SSP Traffic Police, District Health Officer, Additional Assistant Commissioners, and representatives from various departments including WASA, C&W, Tourism and Galiyat Development Authority.
