Mohammad Yousuf claims he resigned as coach after opposing views on Babar Azam’s form and calling for technical adjustments.
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Feb-20, 2026) Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has revealed that he resigned from his coaching position due to differences involving Babar Azam.
In an interview, Yousuf said his resignation was initially not accepted, but it was approved the third time he submitted it. He disclosed that when Babar was struggling with form, he pointed out flaws in his batting technique, stating that the batter had not been scoring consistently for three years.
Yousuf said he had suggested giving Babar a break and allowing him to work on his technique at the academy to regain form. However, he claimed that his remarks led to opposition against him within the setup, after which he decided to step down.
It is worth noting that following Pakistan’s defeat to India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Yousuf had also called for an end to political interference in cricket, describing the current phase as the darkest period in the country’s cricket history.
He expressed deep disappointment over the situation, saying it was essential to remove incompetent individuals from key positions and the team. Yousuf maintained that until political influence and personal interests are completely eliminated from cricket, it would not be possible to rebuild a strong team that once symbolized Pakistan’s pride.
