Chief Selector of the national hockey team, Samiullah Khan, has said that modern training techniques are being employed to rebuild a strong and balanced Pakistan squad, with the upcoming Asia Cup identified as a primary target.
Speaking to media during his visit to China Window, Peshawar he said open trials for the senior team were being held in Peshawar to identify talent from across the country. He emphasized that practical measures are also underway to revive hockey at the grassroots level.
Members of the Pakistan Hockey Federation selection committee, including Olympians Nasir Ali, Naeem Akhtar, Ayaz Mahmood, Atif Bashir, Shakeel Abbasi and Kashif Jawad, were also present.

Samiullah said success in a major international event could help restore international hockey in Pakistan. He acknowledged that the sport faces serious challenges, particularly a lack of sponsorship and financial difficulties for players, stressing the need for better support and employment opportunities.
He added that efforts are being made to modernize the system and review club-level structures. “Our immediate goal is to reach the Asia Cup final, while improving performance in the Hockey World Cup,” he said, expressing optimism that consistent efforts could help Pakistan regain its past glory.
