Punjab government has finalised a strategy to enforce lane and line discipline in major cities, with a plan to convert key arteries into "model roads" under strict traffic management, officials said on Sunday.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where a briefing was given on the province's traffic situation. Authorities outlined a multi-pronged approach aimed at improving compliance, reducing congestion and enhancing road safety.

Under the plan, vehicles equipped with cameras will be deployed to continuously monitor lane violations and traffic behaviour on major roads. Officials said the use of technology would help ensure consistent enforcement and minimise human discretion.

During the briefing, it was revealed that traffic police had issued over 500,000 challans and impounded more than 100,000 vehicles over the past six months. Despite this, the chief minister expressed concern over persistent disorderly traffic patterns in urban centres, particularly Lahore.

The participants also decided to take strict action against motorcyclists involved in zigzag driving, a common cause of accidents.
