LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) The Punjab Home Department on Friday announced that mobile phone services would remain partially suspended in sensitive areas of 24 districts across the province on Youm-e-Ashura as part of security measures to ensure peace and public safety.
According to the department’s spokesperson,the suspension will be limited to locations where Ashura processions and majalis were being held while mobile services will continue to function normally in other areas.
The spokesperson said partial suspension would remain in place until 10:00 pm at designated procession routes and majlis venues in Rawalpindi,Attock,Chakwal,Sargodha,Khushab,Bhakkar,Hafizabad,Gujrat,Narowal, Faisalabad,Toba Tek Singh,Jhang,Chiniot,Multan,Sahiwal,Okara,Pakpattan,Dera Ghazi Khan,Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh,Layyah,Kot Addu,Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.

The spokesperson said that the decision to suspend mobile services at specific locations had been taken solely to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of citizens during Ashura processions and religious gatherings.
He said that the Punjab Home Department had written to the Federal government on the request of the police, providing the location coordinates of procession routes and majalis in the 24 districts.
Following the request,the federal government issued directives to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for the partial suspension of mobile phone services at the specified locations,the spokesperson added.
