ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Federal education and Professional Training, Farah Naz Akbar on Friday informed the National Assembly that the Main Line-1 (ML-1) railways project would significantly improve rail safety and help modernise Pakistan Railways.
Responding during Question Hour, she said the groundbreaking of the ML-1 project has already been carried out and the initiative was expected to address major issues related to train derailments and accidents.
She said most railways accidents in the country occur due to derailments, adding that the situation is expected to improve after completion of the project.
The parliamentary secretary said the project will bring major improvements in railway operations and passenger safety within three years.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>She added that new railway tracks are already being laid in Punjab, while work on the Karachi–Rohri section has also begun and is progressing steadily.
She said safety measures and facilities are available at railway stations, though implementation in rural areas will take more time.
Replying to a supplementary question, she said Pakistan Railways is among the few organisations generating substantial revenue on its own.
She informed the House that the department generated Rs100 million from its own resources, while an additional Rs. 70 million government grant was provided for retired employees.
