Mirwaiz Umar Farooq demands implementation of international promises on Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged the international community to fulfill its long-standing promises on the Kashmir dispute, saying the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have endured immense hardships for decades due to the unresolved issue.

According to Kashmir Media Service, senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while addressing at the historic Jamia Masjid said Kashmiris were once again denied permission to visit Mazar-e-Shuhuda Eidgah to pay tribute to martyrs and leaders, causing deep pain and disappointment among the people.

Recalling the martyrdom of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and the Hawal massacre of May 21, 1990, he said 36 years later the wounds of those tragedies still remain fresh in the hearts of Kashmiris.

Mirwaiz said the people of Jammu and Kashmir continue to bear the real cost of the unresolved Kashmir dispute through decades of violence, suffering, and loss.

He added that Kashmiris’ political struggle seeks recognition of their democratic aspirations, dignity, and right to be heard.

Highlighting his father’s legacy, he said Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq always promoted dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful engagement. He believed India and Pakistan should resolve issues through talks while including the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the process.

Mirwaiz emphasized that international promises on Kashmir remain unfulfilled and urged both countries to begin meaningful dialogue and ensure the participation of the Kashmiri people in any future resolution process.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq reiterated that lasting peace in the region is only possible through meaningful dialogue, fulfillment of international commitments, and acknowledgment of the democratic aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
