ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Feb, 2026) In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), senior Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a leading figure of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has expressed grave concern over the erosion of social values, urging people to embrace the sacred month of Ramazan as a powerful opportunity for moral reflection, spiritual renewal and meaningful

self-reform.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while addressing a gathering at Masjid Abu Bakr in Zoonimar, Srinagar, said that the holy month of Ramzan is far more than abstaining from food and drink.

He described it as a period for profound moral transformation, where true fasting involves purifying one’s speech, disciplining one’s thoughts, and refining one’s behavior.

He highlighted that the quality of public discourse reflects the state of society’s morals.

When conversations are dominated by ridicule, insults and hurtful language, it signals a deeper ethical crisis.

Mirwaiz stressed that Ramzan offers the perfect opportunity to address this moral decline and restore respect and dignity in communal interactions.

The Mirwaiz also raised concerns over the misuse of social media. He noted that platforms intended for communication and constructive engagement have increasingly become arenas of abuse and personal attacks.

He emphasized that differences of opinion should never lead to humiliation, disrespect, or inhumane conduct.

Urging particularly the youth to lead by example, Mirwaiz called for patience, compassion, and dignity in every interaction. He stressed that embracing these values can make Ramzan not just a ritual of fasting, but a true catalyst for moral reform and social harmony within the community.
