Mirpurkhas Commissioner chairs meeting to review Muharram arrangements

MIRPURKHAS, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jun, 2026) Commissioner Mirpurkhas Shahmir Bhutto has said that Muharram-ul-Haram is a month of sacrifice, patience, and tolerance, reminding us of the great sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his companions for the preservation of islam.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting at the Commissioner Committee Hall to review security arrangements and administrative preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Subhash Chandar, Mayor Abdul Rauf Ghori, Deputy Commissioner Nawab Sumair Hussain Laghari, senior police, health, education, and civil defence officials, HESCO and Rescue 1122 representatives, and members of the Peace Committee.

DC Umerkot Naveed-ur-Rehman Larak, SSP Umerkot Suhai Aziz Talpur, DC Tharparkar Abdul Haleem Jageerani, and SSP Tharparkar participated via video link. Mayor Abdul Rauf Ghori informed the meeting that the Municipal Corporation Mirpurkhas had begun work to resolve issues along Muharram procession routes and would ensure drinking water at required points.

District Health Officer Dr. Nahchal Rai said control rooms and focal persons had been designated at district and taluka levels, with ambulances, doctors, paramedics, and medicines arranged at hospitals.

HESCO Superintending Eng. Ameer Muhammad Memon assured uninterrupted electricity supply during religious gatherings and processions. Commissioner directed all DCs of the division to personally inspect procession routes and ensure close coordination among departments to address issues promptly.

He also instructed the Police, Health, HESCO, and local government departments to prepare contingency plans and perform their responsibilities accordingly.

Naeem Ahmed, representing the DIG Mirpurkhas Range Office, informed participants that across the division, 728 religious gatherings would be held in 162 Imambargahs and 1,050 processions would be taken out during the first ten days of Muharram.

He added that 3,089 police personnel would be deployed throughout the division and all necessary safety arrangements would be put in place.
